WHAT IT IS
Design Thinking is a new generation drug, still little used in practice in Italy but much cited in scientific conferences and not as a panacea for the rethinking and design of business processes.
According to Wikipedia, Design Thinking “refers to creative strategies designers use during the process of designing. It has also been developed as an approach to resolve issues outside of professional design practice, such as in business and social contexts”. Based on the principles of strategic design, it uses processes and tools inspired by those adopted by designers in the development, selection and verification of new ideas. The active ingredient is constituted by the creative process through which the designer develops a creative and original idea that responds to the solution of a starting problem related to a need to be satisfied.
Developed in the 1950s, and born together with the active ingredient of Brainstorming, it spread quickly in America and was then also experimented in Europe. If taken by following the medical prescriptions carefully, the medicine increases the decision-making capacity of organizations, promoting positive repercussions for all internal and external stakeholders.
WHY IT IS USED
The drug can facilitate the development of creative thinking and the use of approaches to problem solving inspired by the scientific method used in research. It can be taken in cases where there is a need to solve strategic problems, as well as those related to organization, development of new products or services, and design or re-design of processes including Digital Transformation.
Design Thinking should be taken when seeking an innovative solution to a problem which can meet the criteria of feasibility, profitability or economic sustainability and market or stakeholder satisfaction.
WHEN TO BE USED
The drug should be used when there is a willingness to clear the field of old habits and ways of doing things in order to make room for innovative ideas and solutions.
Design Thinking can be used in different sectors and for different themes, even if it cannot be considered effective for the resolution of every type of problem as is sometimes repeated in some conferences.
WHAT EFFECT OF THE DRUG CAN CHANGE
The combination of Design Thinking with active ingredients such as Big Data, Sentiment Analysis and Open Data enhances its beneficial effects. The taking of Design Thinking is to be discouraged in combination with the active ingredient of Irremediable Resistance to Change.
HOW TO USE THIS MEDICINE
Design Thinking should be consumed following the instructions of a professional. Treatment usually starts by following a five-step structured method: identification of the problem and the objective or objectives to be achieved; identification of the context understood as stakeholders and available data; exploration and search for opportunities; ideation, prototyping, testing and validation; and ending with implementation of the solution identified.
Design Thinking can be taken as needed, without necessarily embarking on a path of treatment that involves regular taking in different sectors of the organization. The benefit that derives from taking it can lead the patient to repeat consumption, ending up in dependence.
When and for how long
Design Thinking can be introduced into the treatment plan at any time in business life and can also be taken for very long periods.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE TAKEN AN OVERDOSE
In the event of an overdose, innovative dynamics could emerge strongly within the company and bring out natural leadership and empowerment in working groups.
Design Thinking is not recommended in any context in which you want to avoid the creation of efficient design teams and in cases where you want to avoid the involvement and birth of a sense of corporate belonging by patients who take the drug.
The drug should be avoided in all cases where only lip service is to be paid to innovation.
